Thu 25 Jun 2015 03:02. Volkswagen Scirocco - 1.4 TSI engine - Noahdog. My son's 1.4 TSI Scirroco lost power 10 days ago and went into our local garage where it had been serviced recently. It is 4 and half years old with 46.000 miles on the clock. They rang to say that piston number 4 had lost compression and had only 40, whilst 1,2 and 3 had 150.

These engines have a fundamental problem which, in my view is common to many other applications which use reverse involute chains. They and their derivatives would most definitely be on my list of engines to avoid. The new generation EA211 engines (first used on the CitMiUp) have wisely reverted to a belt drive.

The two most common problems with the turbocharger on the 1.4 TSI are turbocharger wastegate sticking/rattling. The wastegate is a component tasked with regulating the engineās boost pressure. It controls the speed of the turbine which aids in optimal power increases and keeps the system at bay when it comes to overheating.
VW 1.4TSI teardown- nice counterpoint to the Honda 1.5T one for comparison. So since I posted the Honda 1.5 teardown the other day, this 1.4TSI teardown was just uploaded today, thought it would be nice to see for comparison between the two, though this one is less knackered than the Honda.
